Public Outraged As Price Of Fast-Depleting, Non-Renewable Resource Skyrockets

ATLANTA ? Americans are expressing their outrage at the soaring price of the non-renewable resource gasoline from the passenger seats of their vehicles across the country.
"America means having a right to cheap gas without having to say please," said Augusta, GA resident George Rizner, idling in his Hummer H2 in a protest near the Georgia State Capitol. "What are we supposed to do, walk?"
The public continues to express similar frustration at long lines at gas pumps, constant and disruptive road construction, and increasing traffic gridlock, insisting that all these problems can be easily solved with more and cheaper gasoline.

Better not happen soon?!? Its happening right now. Here in Canada, in the area I live, gas has gone up to 101.2 cents per litre. Two weeks ago, maybe less, it was around 83 cents a litre.
Some may consider buying a smart car (electric car) to save money, but hydro rates are going up as well. The people are screwed. Energy owns your life. Who owns the energy?

So this guy claims a right to pay reasonable price for gas he mainly uses to move around his 8500 lb energivorous dinosaur? What a moron...

Well I have heard some people who seem to hold the same opinion as this George Rizner. But thanks for the info Phred! Hopefully, I won't get easily Onioned like that in the future.

yeah the sad fact is that there are many people in my area who drive gas guzzling cars and actually think like that. This onion article is a little too close to real to be humorous to me.
I'd like to send all the H2 owners a bill for the effect their demand has had on the price of refuelling my efficient japanese vehicle, which gets 20-25 mpg.

If they can afford an H2 Hummer, they can afford the gas. What it should be is people with certain types of car should have to pay more for gas, while people with low mileage cars should pay less, forcing people to resort to buying fuel efficient cars. An example would be someone driving that H2 should pay maybe 3.80 a gallon, while I, driving my 4cyl Toyota Camry, should only pay maybe 1.50 a gallon max.
That would be a good world...

I bought a 2500 dollar car. It uses premium gasoline only and gets on average 16-18 miles a gallon. I'm really rich.

I woke up 25 years ago mainly since I had to learn a lot of thermodynamics to get my degree in chemistry. Chemists learn about the Carnot cycle and heat engines (and refrigerators which are Carnot cycles in reverse) to learn the theory behind Gibbs free energy, entropy, etc. to apply it to chemical reactions, reaction rates under certain conditions, chemical equilibria, etc. I realized then that some forms of energy are more readily available than others and how important that concept was. Fossil fuels are a limited, but we keep using them, obviously since they are economical. I used to try to talk to people about this problem, but no one seemed to care. They would just keep getting married, add to the population explosion, buy big cars and trucks, etc. Now maybe more people will be worried.
I live near the subway and use it to go to and from work. The power plants that supply it with electricity use mostly coal and nuclear power to generate the electricity. Coal is the most abundent fossil fuel on earth. My mortgage is payed off and I have no children. I have a lot of defensive investments that pay dividends, including oil, gas and coal trusts, which is a good hedge against energy prices.

Can't you live with your parents and go to college at the same time? I lived with my father for 39 years. He passed away from lung cancer a couple years ago and I still live at the same house. I guess you can say I still live at home, but I'm the only one living there now.
