found in Melbourne Australia yesterday. It's Autumn here, just starting to get cold and this is after a few days of good rain. Found in woodchips.
Stems - about 4cm long, 2mm wide, very light brown in colour, hollow
Gills - dark brown
Cap - up to 2cm across, highly convex. dark (almost black) brown to light tan (I think depending on maturity).
Very little odour.
I think the pics speak for themselves for most of this
I haven't done a sporeprint, but if no one can id this without one, I'll go back and get a couple to take prints from.
Thanks everyone

Those are some neat looking shrooms. They look similar but do not appear to be Psilocybe. A spore print would really help narrow down the possibilities.

My first thought is Psathyrella.
Try snapping a stem (on a fresh specimen) and see if you can hear it snap.
Happy mushrooming!

thanks guys. I'm doing a sporeprint at the moment. I'll have to go back again to test for that snap, but from memory I don't think they were that crisp even when fresh. Any idea of a species in particular?

Maybe a non rusty spored Conocybe?.....not sure......if you get a spore print (on white paper) try take well lit, CLOSE, clear, snaps.....click about 10 quik snaps each one steadier then the last each time.....then give all the blurrs the dump button.....love that delete.....tripods superior, actually tripod (or propped), line the shot in the veiw, then timer.....completely detatch yourself from the camera to eliminate movement is the best on clarity for future shots.....movement kills the technology and clarity.....hey see if you cant maybe get a clear shot of the gills too, close

Whenever people are tripping out they always put ... for some reason when they jump from one inchoherant idea to another, interesting i'll have to try it some time to see if its universal.

Even the experts I know consider Psathyrella to be a difficult genus to identify to species in. You need a microscope and a lot of patience.

Well I have a good microscope, but I probably don't have the patience...or time for that matter. Thanks for the info
