musical tastetesting experiment
    #5485054 - 04/05/06 11:17 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

is there anyone out there into the whole dreamy shoegazer thing or anything that is not hippy or metal related?

i mean no disrespect, but there is a whole culture of 'psychonauts' out there that have never owned a pink floyd record, nor anything made of hemp. it seems everyone is into that, and a few metal cats.

no ambient guys (new and old)?, no electro guys?, dreamy walls of feedback guys?, cure-type newwave stuff? (i mean, those guys pretty much spent 81-94 on the acid train).

while i dig all sorts of stuff, some things are suited for that whole drifting in the ether thing.

which brings me to my second point:

whose up for a tape ring or something. like, i make i killer dreamy comp or daydreaming, first 5 replys to that post get a cd mailed to em, hopefully someone else makes another compalation and keeps it going.

i would like to avoid everyone just sending their favorite 10 songs to the collective. it doesn't have to be all dreamy, but something themematic to the whole psychoactive expereience.

I imagine it would be a CDR ring these days... Or a zip file with a size limitation.

no, you most certainly can not.

ok, so let me think out loud. there are a few ways to go about this, and i don't want to exclude anyone by making it some proprietory streaming thing. low tech works.

i'd like to avoid having it online, keeps something material about it. people could volutarily make a comp, post a message to a thread saying they have one available, then people could pm them for a copy. cd-r would be best, an audio cd-r. zips are just too much money...

people could send a SASE with a cd-r to said person. or if anyone is feeling generous just send em out. sure, it could be done all online but that is too impersonal, and a cd-r almost forces people to play it places other than their computer.

i'd like to see maybe 5 of these 'rings' started, different 'themes' or genres.

anyone have any ideas how to pull more people into this? maybe a big nasty sticky on a few forums for a little while.

anyone have any ideas to add? hell, i'd as much make a a dozen comps to keep everyone entertained...

Damn, I really need to start becoming more technical...

All I can think of is YouSendIt

Anyway, until you think of other suggestions, I recommend anyone Low Flying Owls

i've also been thinking of getting the musicians and their like gatehred, and doing some songs. there was a band (will go nameless unless you used to being ethreal goth as i was 13 years ago), where the main guy would write some parts, send a DAT to another memeber of the band, they would add some stuff, send it on to the third person, fourth, etc. it was kinda in international revolving door type construct.

i'm just yammerin... my heads a mess, but my hair looks great!

i found some awesome austrailian early electronic stuff last night! can't wait to put it into a comp. very unreal when your in a 'state'.

"but i only have TWENTY-FIVE CENTS" this girl keeps yelling... first and/or second 'severed heads' rekkerd for anyone who knows...

guess i'm hit the studio and start making up a comp to get things started...
