I purchased a timer with 14 selections for on/off. What settings should I program into it to provide optimal humidity in a 36 incher?

The thing is, the humidity Is going to vary depending on where you are. The RH in the air is going to determine how much humidity your humidifier puts off. Its more of a guess and check thing. Althogh, Im sure someone could get you in the ballpark.

Depends on the output of your hummer.

Hope you have an FAE fan as well that you can hook up to it.

Start with 5 minutes every 2.5 hours and go from there.

those 14 setting timers suck. The problem is that you end up having a soggy martha because you must run your humidifier for 15 or 20 minutes every 2 hours.

My buddy built me a short increment timer that just runs in a loop. mine is set for 1.5 minutes of ontime every 12 minutes. short increments keep the water from building up and making a mess. If you want, he will build you an adjustable custom appliance timer like mine for 50 bucks. PM me if interested and i'll give you his info.

Home Depot has a intermatic digital timer now that you can program 14 times a day with a minimum on time of 1 minute for $19.99

I just purchased this timer from home depot for $17.99. My question fell in the area as to what I should program the settings to be. I'm not looking for exact settings, but rather a rough estimate as to where I should begin.

Hey. Dude. If I attempt to program 14 on/off settings every 2.5 hours, it wouldn't cover an entire 24 hour cycle. Do the math.

I had one of these timers, and yes, i did do the math. Apparently you have not done the math. Just in case you need some help...

24 / 14 = 1.71~

So you can only set an on/off program every 1.71 hours. Like i said before, this is undesirable because you will be forced to leave the humidifier on for 10 minutes or so to cover the large sleep time interval. 10 minutes of any ultrasonic will leave your greenhouse a soggy mess! Again, it is recommended that very short intervals be used, and you cannot do that with the timer you bought. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!

So according to your calculation, I would be programming the ultrasonic to begin at 12pm. It would then run for approximately 1.71 hours which I will roughly calculate as 105 minutes, and then shut off.

In my calculation, I would program it to begin at 12pm, run for 15 minutes, and shut off. It would then be programmed to begin it's next cycle three hours later. With only 14 total options of on and off selections, I fall short of completing a 24 hour cycle by three hours.

ROFL! You do realize that it's 14 on AND off settings per day? Not 7 on settings and 7 off settings. if you just made things easy and did 2 hour intervals, it would look like this:

12pm it turns on and at 12:10 it would turn off. The next cycle would begin at 2pm.

PS, i'm done trying to help you. READ THE FUCKING MANUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Usually the '14 event' timers only allow 7 ons and 7 offs / day.
If yours actually allows you to turn it on 14 times, and turn it off 14 times, then you're in fat city.

I meant 3.5 hours in my first post.. Sorry my bad.

For 21 cu. ft. I use 5 minutes every 3.5 hours. First the FAE fan comes one with a timer, runs for 1 minute, then the hummer kicks in.
The FAE stops a minute before the hummer. Resultiung humidity for me is 80-90%.

But this is all going to vary for you.

1st. You hummer is going to output differently than mine.

2nd. Your FAE solution is going to differ from mine.

3rd. You volume (cu. ft.) is going to differ from mine.

Start small and work your way up with the times. Devide it up the start times evenly throughout the day according to how many events you have on your timer.
Then program your 'off' events 5 minutes past every one event.
If that doesn't get you enough one way or another, add or subtract time on the hummer or FAE. Or lower FAE rpm, or output of the hummer.

NO ONE CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT YOU WILL NEED ANYMORE THAN WE ALREADY HAVE.

All about experimentation brother,
peace

The DT17 model timer available at home depot for ~20 bucks has 14 on AND off settings.  You can turn it on & off 14 times a day.... and it sucks.  if your ultrasonic is on past a couple of minutes in your greenhouse, you will get puddels. :frown:
as previously mentioned, short intervals is key.

I purchased a DT27, and the manual says that it's only listed to program up to 7 ON and 7 OFF settings.

I stated that at the start of this thread. From what I've read, Magash had his programmed to run every three hours for 15 minutes, and if there is enough air exchange, I shouldn't have a problem with "puddles".

My original question was geared towards people who might have used such few settings to humidify their setup. I appreciate you trying to help me rezin8r, but I guess my situation doesn't apply to your experience.

NP dude, you just gotta see what works for you.  Also, i went into target a couple of weeks ago and saw a Timex appliance timer with 20 on & off settings per day.  Thats almost an on & off event per hour.  It was under 20 bucks too, i was gonna buy it but them my buddy sent me a custom made one.  All you really need for a greenhouse is:
1. a fan set to come on for like 5 mins, six times a day(your current timer can do this)
2. and an ultrasonic(not a coolmist) that runs for about a minute every 10 minutes.

You really dont even need the vicks impellar coolmist, just the ultrasonic and a fan.  My flushes are nice and hardy with this kind of setup, and my greenhouse stays dry.

Also, Walmart carries an awsome small desktop fan($7) that works great for my FAE needs.  They even come all pimped out in chrome

From what I read, I think I might just run the coolmist without any water to provide FAE, and I'm going to try to work with 10 minutes every 3.5 hours with the ultrasonic. If it stays dry, and the humidity needs a boost, then I'll add water to the coolmist, but I don't think that will be necessary.

What kind of fittings are you guys using on your appliances? Any sealant involved?
