i know when i buy portebeles they keep great for a week sometimes longer with no problems..i think them in a paper bag would be fine..id check every couple days as to see if there getting soggy..

If they rot they'll turn black.

The shrinking you see is them probobly losing a wee bit of moisture that they contain - it shouldn't be anything to worry about.
