A History of Violence (or, 96 minutes well-spent. - SPOILER WARNING)

I really liked that. I liked the shady yet cheeky humor, that subtle sarcasm running all through the movie. I like that it made me laugh and also disturbed me. I liked the score, the cinematography, the actors, the actresses. I guess what I'm trying to say is that's the best film I've seen in a while now.
And that's saying something, considering I watched fuckin' Wild Style last night.

I am a movie fan. I love movies. I know lots of people really loved that movie. I thought it was corny and way too predictable (mainly because of the title). I didn't see what everyone saw in that flick. I really disliked it.
Oh well, different strokes and such

It was an adaptation of a comic book, so I expected the corniness.

I had no idea it was even adapted from a comic book, so I went into it ready to be blown away by the positive reviews. I guess I was also taken aback by this new role; I was waiting for Aragon to slay evil and protect the fellowship

Speaking of comic books, V for Vendetta was excellent. I watched the movie last night and finished the comic book series today.

You mean the very last scene?
I think it was perfection. See, Cronenberg likes to be the antihero of Hollywood...he doesn't like wrapping things up in pretty packages because things rarely wrap up nicely at precise points in our lives.
Joey/Tom comes back from his trip home, his baptismal Biblical rebirth in which he must become Cain to his brother's dumb Abel, though Richie would sure like to think they're in opposite roles. He comes home, to the family dinner, to this standard family scene that he's been living for years and years and loving. But of course nothing will EVER be the same.
Would you really rather he had sat down at the table and the whole family had hugged him and been all "OMG! I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE BACK! I LOVE YOU DAD!" That just wouldn't happen.

hmmmm yeah, I guess the ending is more tolerable when you explain it that way. That was also my only complaint about the movie, otherwise I thought it was really good, a little gory, like when the face is still pulsating...but good.

I thought the goriness had a point...I felt like he was really trying to portray violence in a truthful way. I really liked those shots of people's mangled faces because in so many Hollywood movies it's just all fluff and flash and clean exit wounds and A History of Violence just showed what would happen in these situations much more realistically - and yet not as over-the-top gory as something like Kill Bill. It was just gory enough to make you squirm.
I can't stop thinking about it! One thing I like is about the opening scene with the two killers...once we meet Joey/Tom's brother later in the movie, when you think abck on that opening scene at the motel, those two killers that later rob the diner actually look a lot like Joey and his brother.

There's a shot towards the end that gave me chills.
By the lake.
He drops to his knees, and there's a half-built gazebo behind him. What a beautiful piece of Biblical imagery right there, the gazebo looking a crown of thorns over his head, plus the fact that it's half-built bringing to mind Jesus being a carpenter. I dug it.

Top notch man, top notch. Viggo's awesome, he goes through a great shift from one end of the film to the other.
In fact, the entire film shifts in many ways. The cinematographic style, the feel of it, it all goes from one end of a spectrum to the other.

When the girl gave her father the dinner plate at the end of the movie, it made me want to cry.
