Something worrying happened to me

I was foolish and decided not to go to sleep last night. I stayed up and goofed off. About 9am I took a 20mg Adderall XR because I was feeling groggy and it was too late for me to sleep and not miss class. Worked fine, kept me awake and focused. I took another dose at about 3:30 pm as the first one wore off. Right before I had to be in a chem lecture. I started off fine, I was awake and managed to pay attention, despite being tired.
But then sleep crept up on me and I just could NOT keep my eyes open. I kept having to struggle to make sure I didn't doze off while sitting upright in a lecture hall chair. My eyes drooped shut and my head slumped forward as I dozed off for a fraction of a second. Naturally my response was to snap out of it and quickly reawaken. When I did I really jolted awake and I felt an uncomfortable surge. There was a thin white haze across my vision that made everything look brighter, especially in my peripheral vision. And my pulse had sped up. It felt like a surge of adrenaline, but a lot more unpleasant. I felt very anxious and I had to calm myself down because it frightened me and I felt disoriented.
This has happened to me one time before when I used adderall to stay awake, but I didn't make the connection to the adderall, I just assumed it was the tiredness. It was less severe then, though. Just a faint white haze in my vision lasting a few seconds. This time it lasted about 15 seconds and something felt very much not right.
I don't know what the hell happened, it's scary.
I am of course not going to be touching the adderall again. And I'm going to get a nice long rest tonight.

shit...sounds a little like the spiders; have you ever had the coke spiders, where there are litle bursts of light lines around a central point. it usually happens when one has been speeding for several days. any pressure where the spine and medula meet?>

I used to only do it maybe one or two times a year if I had a LOT of work to do. Sleep is really important to be healthy. I just keep ignoring that. It's dumb.
The tunnel vision, anxiety, and elevated heart and breathing rate definitely freaked me out. But also I don't remember the couple seconds where I zonked out. At all. I remember starting to doze, and I remember feeling my head jerk upwards when I woke up. I was in a lecture hall with at least 50 other people who all probably saw me and thought I was a tweaker

I used to take anywhere from 30-60 mg of Adderall in the morning before I had to go to work on the nights where I'd coke binge all night and not sleep (Workman's comp waiting to happen) and nothing like that ever happened to me.

Huh. As I've said before, I've nearly died twice for lack or sleep... But nothing like this has ever happened to me.

I thought you couldn't possibly die from not sleeping alone. It was taught in my one psych class.

Yeah, we also held murcury in our hands in chem class, while they told us it wasn't poisonous.
Really, though, I'M not sure. I'm just saying that the doctor people said. *shrug*

Whatever it was, it freaked me the hell out. Rarely is it a good omen to get tunnel-vision. And that's what this was. A white-glow with tunnel vision. As well as spike in heart rate and respiration. I thought I was having a mild stroke or something, it was scary.

I'll second that. Adderall is the devil incarnate.

i love being in that kind of situation when you're too tired to even keep your eyes open but you must... you can feel for a split second what it's like to fall asleep like a click and your head dives down
i just love that feeling!

Yeah, it is kind of neat. Used to happen to me in church all the time, when I was made to attend.
It's like a tree falling over... then SNAP, your inner ear sends an alert and you're wide awake again... for 30 seconds... then the cycle repeats.

it's even better if there's some risk involved... not wanting to offend anyone or getting cought asleep in school or the army
only time i ever saw someone sleep standing up was in the middle of class in boot camp... he was standing becouse the commander already cought him nodding off but he fell asleep standing! that kept us alert for another five minuts (while we calmed down after laughing are asses off)

Yeah... one day I was in math class after a night of no sleep and the teacher kept giving me shit for dozing off. After the second one he said, "If your head hits that desk again, you're out of here."
So I fell asleep sitting upright... and woke up to find a fucking river of drool pouring out of my mouth.
I was real popular in high school...

I remember seeing a few people in high school that drooled a bunch after dozing off. It never got old, it was always a great laugh. Luckily I've never drooled when I slept, although I faked it on a long bus ride once during middle school.
