Well before I left to fiji, I was informed that psilocybe cubensis and copelandia cyanescens were the only known actives to exist in the fijian region. I will now be adding at least one new species to that list.
Theres what I believe to be gymnopilus luteofolius, correct me if im wrong. GGreatone, I would gladly accept your knowledgeable advice on this one.
clearly blueing (greening actualy)
im not positive of the id of these, but they have been oraly tested, and are definately active.

Not that I'm an expert, or really have any authority, but the one batch I found in San Francisco looked like that... with the leathery textured cap and pinkish color when young... Mine were maggot infested though, no oral investigation ensued and I must say that was quite stupid of you (or whom ever ate them) to consume these so far 'unidentified' mushrooms.
Good find on what is most likely (75%) Gymnopilus luteofolius...

Look like Gym. aeruginosa to me.
Mj
And where exactly in Fiji did you find these orangy morsels?
mj
Of course they might be G. purpuratus. Common in the austral floral zone However, both spectabilis and purpuratus have distict rings or veil remnants left on their stems and yours has no veil whatsoever.
mj
Hi Shroomie of Doomie.
Wait until you see the image I created with your three Amanita shroom picture.

the cat with the lime hat may make a comeback someday
thanks for your advice mj, i wasnt too sure what they were, but they were bruising intensely on some species, and i was positive they were active. as for the intellectuality of the person who tested them, it was my girlfriends dad, and i had no clue he was going to do that. I did not ingest any of them myself, I collected them for him alone, since he did not have access to these things himself.
my adventure was awesome, the scenery was beautiful. the fijians are the nicest people in the world. even if they were poor and starving they would give you everything they had to make sure your ok and happy. the ganja there only took two little leafs to get you tripping, and i mean serious kaleidascope images behind closed eyes. a plant 3 inches tall would be more potent than a twomp of your dankest nuggets.
the beer there is fiji bitter, probably the best beer ive ever drank, up there with corona.
you could see 60 feet down in the oceans, and probably 200 miles over the ocean. there were colors like no other.
i had my first experience on coleus, it grew wild everywhere there.
very similar to mescaline, much lighter.
the fish there were GNARLY BIG!
and all the kava that u would buy in the stores comes from the island i was on, it was the strongest kava in the world. i drank kava almost everyday. it gets u really really drunk after 20 or so coconut bowls which they measure by "tides". high tide is a full bowl, low tide is a half bowl. at one point i had possibly over 100 bowls of kava, threw up, and tripped out into hyperspace. in higher doses its quite psychedelic. we had fields of it.

HEy Shroomie of Doomie,
Actually there are two varieties of Coleus which, acfcording to some sources are more similar to a 2 hour musheroom high and contain chemicals related to Saliva divinorum. They are a trytamine kinda high (similar to a 2-hour mushroom experience), not a phenylethylamine (mescaline) high.
mj
Here is a quote from my book on Maria Sabina regarding these Coleus plants.
3When the mushrooms are not in season, Mazatec shamans and curanderas (including Mar?a Sabina) employ several other common psychotropic plants for divination. One such plant is Salvia divinorum, a member of the mint family which is rich in essential oils. Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann (1980) reported that it was a plant used ceremoniously by Mar?a Sabina. Mazatec shamans and "sabia"s refer to this plant as "Hojas de la Pastora" (leaves of the shepherdess). Do?a Mar?a Sabina referred to it as "la hembra" (the female) (Wasson, 1962). Salvia's divinitory powers can be experienced by rolling twelve to sixteen mature leaves into a plug and holding it between the cheek and gum for fifteen minutes. Profound visual effects will be noticed with eyes closed or in total darkness. Dried Salvia leaves can also be smoked for milder effects. When the Salvia herb is not available for use in divination, the Mazatecs employ two different species of Coleus found in Oaxaca. Coleus pumilus is referred to as "el macho" (the male). Two other varieties of Coleus blumi are referred to as (1) "El nene" (the children) and (2) "el ahijado" (the godson).

my 3 amanita picture? you sure it was mine? sure it wasnt the agaricus augustus photo i took? anyways i cant wait to see your art, its always left me in awe. i found them on kadavu, the southern island below vitu levu, the main island..
i found coleus blumei more similar to mescaline than mushrooms or salvia. it was alot more floaty, not so confusing, and much less visual than mushrooms. it lasted a little longer than two hours, maybe 3 and a half to four. i was able to function normaly around family, but was clearly trippin.

my mushrooms did have a veil btw... but only in the younger specimens... in the older the veil was completely missing. no remaining evidence of a veil, but the smaller purple colored ones definately had veils. the veil had a bright yellowish tint to it if that helps any.

Shroomie of Doomie,
I will be perfectly honest with you regardngt the identification of the gyms.
Not ev en the professionals can tell most of the 13 or so species of psilocybian gyms form one another. I have had a good suppkly int hye 1990s of Inoccybe aeruginosa and gymnopilus purpuratus grown in germany naturally out doors from man made environments.
I did not find anything exciting about them and I cannot stand the taste. Spectabilis is the worst bitterist tasting shroom I ever putr in my mouth.
have a shroomy dayu. I have a thread for you in a day or so about your Amanita photos.
