RR, how in the hell did you colonize and fruit a Bible, I very much want to recreate that for a picture. I was thinking of a picture of a sea of books all colonized and littering the ground would be great, but to do it Id have to colonize and fruit a Bible and other books and then take various picture angles, and work em together ona backdrop.
So are you willing to share the Bible Tek? LOL....

The one you linked Agar is the one that inspired this post it does not reveal how he did it, people just speculate.

Bah found the thread, I actually thought for a second he had colonized a book was wondering how in the hell he did it since processed paper is non nutritive.
Oh well as a gag it was funny, good to know what can and cannot be done lol, was getting some ideas for odd mushroom pics, if of course, there was some magic way to add nutrients to non nutritives...but alas I'll have to settle for pics of my casings ^_^

If you press the next button at the top of the page Roger explains how he did it. He mutilated the book and hollowed out some of the center, then pasturized the book and under a flow hood he added a half quart of colonized rye to the center of the book. It was a $6 bible, he said the paper resembled that of a newspaper. As you can see not all the growth is from the grain the mycelium did colonize a lot of the paper. The paper used isn't bleached and others have shown here growing on cardboard with some success (sucess being relative concerning what they were trying to accomplish

Thank you Lardnar, with this information I intend to spawn and fruit a Teddy Bear for a Pic one day, get one with cotton inside, and add spawning material sterilize that thing inside a jar in my pc at field cap in liq, innoc and incubate in a jar, case then while fruiting when he is nice and flushed, prop him up and take a pic, would be sooooo cool looking, like I said this is for photography purposes, not really for yield, potency or anything I just love a good picture. You see as a photographer the idea of mixing non nutrious items with enough nutrition to spawn them interests me greatly. Imagine some of the images you could create.

Paper is not non-nutritious. All of the mushrooms you saw were fruiting on the paper. The grain was the source of inoculation, not the substrate. I suppose you've seen this other paper project? Also, it's hard to tell by my thumbnail avitar, but it's a stuffed animal, hand made to look like the cave drawing of the bee-man on the inside cover of GGMM. The bra is a padded cotton one for girls with small boobs. The cotton padding served as the casing layer. Hope it doesn't hurt your eyes too much. Good luck with your projects. RR

How about cloning a button mushroom on a broccoli spear? No added nutes. RR
