Mycellium growth characteristics.

Here is a thought that crossed my mind last night. Does mycellium growth rate increase in relation to surface area? In other words, if it were normal cells, the more I had, the more the rate of growth would increase (ie Exponentially.) Does mycellium have the same characteristics? The more surface area the faster the coverage time?
I'm sure there are a few on this board that understand what I am talking about.

We just did this in math right now. Logarithmic pre-calculus with the numbers and the exponential growth charts n shit.
Other than that I have no idea what your talking about. Can you reword it because it sounds interesting.

I think he's asking if mycelium grows faster the more substrate it colonizes?

i would believe so since the more colonized substrate you use to spawn the faster it colonizes. Makes sense.

He's asking if the mycelium grows more/faster depending on how much mycelium there is. He's talking exponentially.
Something like: 2 strands of mycelia grows into 4 more strands of mycelia, and then those 4 grow into 8, and 8 into 16, and so on...

2 to 4, then 4 to 8..... is not exponential, BTW (I couldn't resist).

That is true.
What he is talking about I think is how a cells divide. 1 cell turns to 2, 2 turns to 4, to 8, 16, 32, etc. Its exponential, NOT linear.
A linear graph is a straight line, like a car gaining speed with a constant acceleration. There are no bursts and no decreases in acceleration.
An exponential graph is a curve, starts off shitty but then gets fast (or grows faster) the longer it is going for.
I kind of got myself lost but the larger the mycelium network is, the healthier (if its GOOD) and stronger it is. But without being broken up and shaken around (like spawning, which I dont think he was asking about I could be wrong), I'm assuming that it would spread at the same rate, maybe a LITTLE faster.
Hope that helps but then again I could be completely wrong with the 2 lines above this. GL man

Are you sure??
2 squared, 2 cubed, 2 to the 4th, 2 to the 5th.......

Yeah I just checked...he's wrong, it is exponential.

2^4 = 2*2*2*2 = 16 2^3 = 2*2*2 = 8 2^2 = 2*2 = 4 2^1 = 2
I don't understand what you are saying. =]

That is precisely what I was asking. I have a tendency to be a tad loquacious.
I have a strong command of the English language and I'm not afraid to use it.
Whaddaya mean "What does that word mean?" Look it up!

Ponder WHY spawn jars or bags are SHAKEN.
What shaking does is.
Spreads myc out, throughout a grain/wbs mass, inside an enclosed container.
Shaking also, dislodges smaller myc loose from colonized grains.
Then, besides spreading out colonized grains, spreads out dislodged pieces of Myc.
The more colonized pieces & grains spead out in the mix.
The faster the mix colonizes, as colonization is spreading out, from that many more points of contact inside the container.
Imagine Myc like a single growing worm.
Then, imagine cutting the worm into a thousand pieces.
Each of which regenerates & grows on it's own.
Then, cut those thousand worms into 100,000 more.
Then cut those into a MILLION more.
So on & so forth.
Pretty soon, you have a container completely jammed full of worms.
