autoclave bags

im was gonna make up some casing mix later and was going to use some autoclave bags for the first time..so my question is how do i seal it up..i have an impulse sealer but i didnt think i should make it air tight..anyone?what do all of you do?

Vacuum seal the bags if you can - once the mycelium begins to grow it will expel C02 and the bag will expand.
Otherwise just squeeze as much air out as you can and they will be fine also.

Are they filter patch bags or just plain autoclavable bags? Is this to sterilize the casing? One avenue of approach to avoid the bag bursting on you is to seal the bag but leave about 1/2 on one end unsealed. This will provide enough room for steam to escape.

So you would seal the bag but leave an end of the bag sticking out of the side of the impulse sealer. Once the bags are done, while they're still hot, seal the end you left open to keep it sterile.

im just sterilizing my casing mix..not filter patch bags,so yeah i guess just a partial seal until its done pressure cooking :wink:then seal and store until its time to case :thumbup: thanks Wronguy :tongue:
