Anger
    #5292538 - 02/12/06 07:49 PM (18 years, 1 month ago)

How do you deal with anger?

I'm not an angry person. Actually, in fact I don't know if I've ever really been angry. Upset or generally pissed yes, but I can't ever remember expressing anger.

This, however may have become a problem, because I think that somewhere inside, I might be a little angry. I find myself doing very interesting things, like say walking around punching the air, or punching people or the pillow (not hard, playfully even, but I'm still doing it), I noticed today I was kind of stomping around the place and pouting about even. I think I even recall childishly throwing myself at my bed at some point. To me this sounds almost like a child like regression. This is the type of behaviour children display when angry or hurt.

I'm not sure what to do about this. I'm not even sure I know where it came from, but I think its a by product of the fact that I never get angry and don't express the fact that someone may have hurt my feelings, I just let things slide, we're all people, forgive and forget.

Its a strange way to find myself...

A lot of my anger either seems to be forgotten, or washed away with psychadelics or pot. I know its not the best method to live by, but it just seems to help me forget when I can't really do anything else.

i behave very similar to that... i very rarely get angry, and whenever i do i just quiet down and walk away... i have always had problems expressing my anger... so sometimes i feel it building up inside...

whenever this happens i try to let it go on objects that don't get hurt... take some old dishes and smash them into the wall... or take ice cubes.. another good thing for me is my drumset...

When I'm angry, I talk to my friends and vent.  Or, I write down how I'm feeling.  Not even in a journal or anything, I feel like it just makes me feel better to put it in to words and see them in front of me - it helps it seem more simple, and more sorted out.

I'm pretty good about expressing my emotions, whether it be anger or sadness or whatever, but I wasn't always, it can be a really hard thing to surpress emotions for a long time and then all of a sudden realize that you don't know how to best deal with it.

That being said, you know how to get in touch with me if you need to vent/talk/whatever.  God knows you've done it for me :hug:

I'm often told by people I know that I seem to be very angry. In truth, I've only ever gotten truly angry a couple times in my life. I think what keeps me from serious anger is that I freely express myself, which in turn leads people to think I'm always angry. Most of it tends to just be frustration at the general human experience.

But in regards to your built up frustration (punching people, the air, stomping around, etc.), this may sound like some kind of clumsy perverted line, but you may need to get laid. Often times those can be signs of pent up sexual energy.

the answer is simple, instead of letting things "slide by" yell or fight with someone that has done something to piss you off. No need to hold it in...atleast not all the time

I just dont give in to it, I'm far from short tempered but I've found very little
that can actualy make me angry, most shit just isnt worth getting worked up over,
the things that are... then plotting my revenge is a better use of my time.

What I don't understand is hitting someone! I've never been frustrated to the point where my only responce would be to move my fist towards their face at a high speed. It seems very primitive to me.

I usually solve whatever the cause of the anger is or learn and position myself so it doesn't happen again. If it's something I'll have to put up for a while then I do have methods to vent. I run or lift weights. Anything that gives me a sense of accomplihment.

I do my best to avoid bitching about things or talking them out because it forces me to relive the angerful fealings and share the burden with whoever hears it. Bitching doesn't really help anyway.

Try redirecting any frustration into something that will benefit you.

exactally. ive found the few times i get angry, when i look back on my emotions a few days later i realize that it was not worth getting worked up over.
usually just a deep breath or two, or maybe some meditation clears up most frustrations.
