help with my cakes
    #525923 - 01/19/02 09:30 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

wussup everybody from hawaii.

-i have a few cakes that i birthed once they colonized 100% about 5 days ago. i didnt wait for any invitro pins before birthing. is that alright?
-when you guys talk about the cakes being dry, how could you really tell how DRY is DRY?
-i have them in an 18 gal rubbermaid clear container, with an aquarium air pump pushing fresh air into the terranium, and co2 escape. everything is sitting on some damp perlite. humidity is at about 96%-98%, and temps are at 73-78 degrees. the setup is in my closet with my closet doors wide open to let in some indirect sunlight. ive had no signs of contams but just wondering if im just getting worked up for nothing, because ive set up all the variables to pretty much meet the needs of the mushies.
-oh yeah is there supposed to be condensation on the walls of the terranium? cause mine doesnt, though my hygrometer reads 96-98% rH.
alohas everyone, much thanks to those who reply to this lost soul.
love peace and not too much chicken grease

-5 days is most probably good, especially if youre not casing..use the speed of the mycelium growth prior to completion as a good bearing.
-cakes usually only get dry after a flush or two, unless you have severely miscalculated the water amounts in your substrate.
-setup sounds fine...whats the question?
-trust your instruments.

it sounds as though you're following directions perfectly. your cakes are probably not dry... you don't need to see condensation on the walls of your terrarium.

cant wait for them mushies!!!!!!!
-are the cakes supposed to be really moist to the touch when felt? cause mine seems like it has the consistency of a ripened orange that was peeled. its not wet and its not rock solid.
- how long would it take for pinning to occur, if i didnt wait for invitro pinning?
-could too much indirect sunlight affect the moisture of the cakes in the terranium?
arigatos ladies and gents
peace love and ganjah

You can birth them after they are completely colonized.
You don't have to wait for pins in the jar.
