the Streetlight Phenomenon

I was reading this article on the Streetlight Phenomenon.
"Typically, a person who has this effect on streetlights - also known as a SLIder - finds that the light switches on or off when he or she walks or drives beneath it. Obviously, this could happen occasionally by chance with a faulty streetlight (you've probably noticed that it's happened to you once in a while), but SLIders claim that it happens to them on a regular basis. It doesn't happen every time with every streetlight, but it occurs often enough to make these people suspect that something unusual is going on."
And I have had this happen so many times and always wondered why. Just mostly when I go for runs at night a few street lights go on and off as i pass and this happens about 80 percent of the time. Does this happen to anyone else?

Very often, SLIders also report that they tend to have an odd effect on other electronic devices. In letters I've received, these people claim such effects as:
Appliances such as lamps and TVs go on and off without being touched. Lightbulbs constantly blow when the SLIder tries to turn them off or on. Volume levels change on TVs, radios, and CD players. Watches stop working. Children's electronic toys start by themselves when the SLIder is present. Credit cards and other magnetically encoded cards are damaged or erased when in their possession.

These 2 really stick out. Like for instance I have one of those mirriors with 6 light bulbs above it. I had the right voltage light bulbs and everything and after a week 4 of the had blown....

"Any attempt to pinpoint a cause for SLI at this point would be mere speculation without a thorough scientific investigation. The problem with such investigations, as with many forms of psychic phenomena, is that they are very difficult to reproduce in a laboratory. They seem to happen spontaneously without the deliberate intention of the SLIder. In fact, the SLIder, according to some informal tests, are usually unable to create the effect on demand.
A reasonable speculation for the effect, if it is a real one, might have something to do with the electronic impulses of the brain. All of our thoughts and movements are the result of electrical impulses that the brain generates. At present it is known that these measurable impulses only have an effect within an individual's body, but is it possible that they could have an effect outside the body - a kind of remote control?"

same shit happened to me in my old apratment complex. I would know it was going out, then when coming back the other way ti would come back on. I used to tell my friends about it and they would just be like damn.
I thought for a long time it was because I was a god. lol, now I know its just because of something much more mundane.

I was told it was due either to the wiring being close to the ground, or magnetic interference. Either way, it happens to me too.

I think this topic came up before, and someone mentioned that streetlights go out when they overheat.

One time I was pretty stoned, and went to make a cup of tea. As I was pushing the start button on the microwave, it went dead, as did all other appliances. Apparently I blew a fuse.

I know two people who have this sort of effect.
My grandfather, and an old school teacher of mine.
Both of them cannot wear watches, because they(the watches) die within a few days without fail(hello, hello, pun.). I've seen my granfather kill a brand new watch in just one weekend, simply by wearing it. My teacher explained as well that she even received a several thousand dollar watch as a gift, the giver thinking the HQ watch would break her curse of not being able to wear a watch.. She said it lasted about an hour.
I can't imagine what could explain this, honestly.. Electromagnetic fields are pretty crazy, and I can't even imagine what sort of stuff exists that we havent even an inkling of a clue about.
For any of you who may thing that I'm bullshiting, I'm not. I'm dead serious about this, and have wondered about it many times before. Both my grandfather and this teacher have never met, and explained the exact same scenarios. I've seen if with my own two eyes, as well.

On a somewhat related note, I can't stand flurorescent lights. I can see the light going through them.. like in little 2" bands, with dark spaces between. It drives me fucking crazy, and no one else seems to notice it. =\
