Herbal Remedies for Anxiety?

Morning, folks. Before I run off to do a shit ton of work that's piled up for me I wanted to make this post for my girlfriend, Lucy, who wanted me to ask all you herb-knowledgable folks if you knew of any natural herbs that can be brewed into teas or ingested somehow (herbal supplements, etc) that help relieve anxiety. Like myself, Lucy does not shine to the idea of medicating the problems of the mind with mass marketed anti-anxiety pills, so any help on the more holistic end of the Shroomism would be much appreciated!
Shroomism, I'm lookin' at you!

all "herbal" really means is that you don't need a prescription and that it's not really proven to work, but it might...
i'm going to prescribe deep breathes and yoga. carry on now, lad.

From the link above:
Ginkgo biloba - improves circulation to the brain. It elevates the mood for those depressed
Ginseng: Taken in combination with royal jelly, ginseng is a great energy booster and lifts the spirits. Take 1 tsp. of royal jelly in a cup of ginseng tea twice daily
Valerian
The extract of valerian has been the treatment of choice for anxiety and insomnia throughout the world. It is a sedative and painkiller. Helpful in treating insomnia. Valerian root taken at bedtime aids in preventing panic attacks at night.
Valerian is quite safe to take for short periods of time. However, its long-term effects are not known
I take Ginkgo and Ginseng daily and I'd say its just 'meh', won't alleviate everything but won't hurt either.
I use to take Valerian as a sleep aid and can't see people taking it during the day without being really drowsy.
Peppermint tea always makes me feelpretty good, very chipper too.

Damiana, although I believe there is something different for everyone. Plain ordinary Tea works for me.

Valerian root is some smelly stuff. The cat I use to have went nuts over it for some reason.
I recomend some chamomile tea with a little Kanna added.
I have a small amount of pharm. grade kanna that I can send you.I dont know he weight of it.I need to weigh it out first.I also have some valerian root I could put in the package as well.

The pharm. grade stuff is bunk. Most vendors won't sell it anymore. I had both pharm. and the regular grade. (both powdered) At the time I was using them for recreational effects not anti-anxiety remedies. However, the pharm. grade produced no effects at all, whereas the regular grade had me floored and extremely blissful.

Hmmm.My "pharm grade" came from shamans palace.I think its the only type they sell. Why would it be bunk?Do you think it contains less mesembrine and the other active alkaloids than some kanna from a differrent vendor not labeled as "pharm grade"?
I doubt his g/f wants to be "floored" hehe.Just uplifted.
Well,as I said I can send you some valerian root and some kanna if you would like, you can try those out.I also have some chamomile you can mix in with it for flavor.Plus it also has some minute effects.Just let me know OMR.
Good info Matt, thanks for those links.

ok I see, thanks for the insight matt. How bad was the kanna burn, when you insulflatted it?That sounds roughola.
I think the next ethno seeds on my list are gonna be Sceletium Tortuosum.
Blink, how bad of a taste did the smoke produce?I have some calea seeds Im about to plant and I had planned on mixing some of the valerian root I have in with the calea foliage after I have some to harvest.
Do you think tea would be a better route of injestion?

The burn was pretty bad but nothing too intolerable. Honestly the taste was worse than the burn. After you snort it you have to keep plugging your other nostril and snorting really hard to get it all down. It's worth it though.

If your sucking it down your throat and not letting it dissolve into the mucouse membraine in your sinus passage, then whats the use of snorting it instead of swallowing it?

I'm sure a lot of it did absorb via the mucus membranes, however the larger bits obviously would not. They just clog up your nasal passage, hence you have to suck them down your throat.
The same thing goes for anything you snort... the cocaine (for example) doesn't magically disappear, hence the notorious drip.

First and foremost, I would suggest a good session of introspection, with or without any herbal (weed) assistance. Maybe journaling. That is a big help in understanding where anxiety comes from, and then dealing with it.
In terms of herbs, valerian and kava are both effective, but Kava shouldn't be taken regularly and valerian makes you sleepy.
Rhodiola Rosea I've found to work wonders. It's actually somewhat stimulating, to the point that I no longer drink coffee in the morning. It's one of the most studied herbs, and there's a long list of beneficial effects. Check out this report http://www.herbalgram.org/herbalgram/articleview.asp?a=2333
So that would be my first suggestion. Second would be Niacinamide or vitamin B3 amide. It increases activity of the GABA complex, which is the same complex that benzos like xanax and valium affect. In fact, 200mg of Niacinamide feels almost exactly like a nice valium.
