found these 2 weeks ago with a little help from a member. These were found in the bay area. What do you think they are?

yeah, they bruise blue..The problem is most of them were already halfway dry by the time I found it. In fact, that was the reason why I ate one, because they turned blue. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with it, because it didn't look like cyans or fibs/friscosas. Never saw anything like those before, and maybe they aren't azures, who knows, but they were pretty strong, like cyans.
The problem now is somebody picked the last two baby ones I left out there, and it look like parts were dug up. So we're trying to save it now, whatever it is. I just don't know yet what the future will hold with this particular patch

That really sucks that someone dug up your patch. I would have been much better had it been left alone and allowed to deposit massive amounts of spores to neighboring communities where it could take. Good luck with the salvage operation.

This patch has already dropped massive amount ofs spores.

No need to defend the rapers. I am sure that the mycleium was quite happy where it was and didn't need someone walking off with it. Besides a single patch factored by x flushes = better chances.

it was getting a little thin around the edges with woodchips already. Somebody had been standing a real estate sign about 3 feet away, so it's possible some of the chips could have been kicked.
Nevertheless, I've already piled more woodchips in some of the bare areas, took some small bit of mycellium to grow that out just in case, and I still need to get more woodchips on there pretty soon.
It wasn't like they took the whole thing. My guess is they could have taken maybe 20% of it. It's hard to tell...but they did take the two last baby ones still growing. these two >>
I was hoping to show those to MSSF for ID, because it's tough with dried samples. But they were gone when I got there 3 days ago

if you think about it, it's a heck of a dilemma. I wish I could make it a bio-study area and seal it off, because maybe it is azurescens, and if it is, it means it's adapted naturally to the bay area and doesn't require freezing,or need to be by the beach and sand, like it does up north. But what can we do?..It's in the middle of the road.
It's not like we can ask the city to put a fence around it. They're just as likely to dump fungicide on it. But there is some hope here, but that will take some time...We won't know for some time yet whether it's salvagable...possibly even next year

we took a little of it. I gave it to somebody who has grown out bits of mycellium before, and if that works, then that can be transplanted.
In this patch, there is a small chance it may have a couple more fruits in a few weeks if it rains alot, then maybe we can get an ID. As far as transplanting the whole thing, that's about 10 cubic feet at least, and I can't do that on a bike excpt in pieces, and we already have a piece.
The other problem with transplanting is, unless you have a backhoe to get the whole thing intact, it's going to fall apart, and while it will likely survive, it probably will take a long time to assemble back together....as in, porobably no fruits next year either, but maybe in 2 years.
right now there is still time to think about it...If it gets worse(as in, more missing chips), and I can tell, I will have to spend a day and just move whatever is left....There's lots of places not far away to put it too.
well, at least I got some decent photos, and this lousy t-shirt..hehe

also, I have no way of knowing, but it's possible people driving by couldf have seen me, or Tahoe picking in that spot...And sometimes that's all it takes, because I have had it happen to me before..
I used to have a great spot in Brisbane, just south of SF, until one day I was picking there, and somebody stopped 30 feet away, and got out of his car and started looking "are these them?..yeah they sure look like them..they are them, aren't they?"..
needless to say, that patch was never like I first found it..It was never a virgin spot all to my own again.
I've actually had people come up next to me in GGP while I was picking and get really excited and start picking out of the same patch...Like, 12 inches away...what do you do?..You know what I did?..I started following HIM around for awhile, until he got annoyed and left the park
Ever since then I started trying other techniques to seem like I'm not picking, but doing something else..
You see, it was never the cops out here in San Francisco, but other people who might recognize that you're picking shrooms while they're driving by, and then a light goes off in their head.... *ding*
and that's all it takes sometimes....Seriously, it's not the cops that make me careful, it's idiots who have no clue. And some of these guys really have zero clue except for some general descriptions and the fact they saw me picking.
I'm telling ya, those guys do more damage out here in SF than the cops ever will...Why, because once they discover you picking, they know this one spot, and what do they do?...they proceed to tell all their friends, and then they keep going over the same place every single day..sometimes twice a day. I had that happen the first time 10 years ago, and now I'm counting the 45th new person I saw in that same spot
And for us here, we already know that isn't going to work, they don't grow that fast...What happens is, there is a few baby ones every few days, barely enough for one trip. Never a muture one to be found, ever again
so what do they do?...they keep going over this same spot, over and over again..round and round we go, and then when they can't find it anymore, they start squabbling amongst themselves.
I've seen this shit before..It totally looks like a 3 stooges movie in slow motion. Do they ever think it can grow anywhere else besides this one spot they saw me picking in?..fuck no
I think people here know there is a big difference between people like that, and people like me...You can see it in the photos I peppered all over this forum this season
For shame folks....when I learned about this, I didn't even have the info like we have here, there was no internet, much less a website like this...Not even the books like Stamets publishes.
By now, you would think these a-holes would learn..It NEVER works when you attach to somebody elses finds..The ONLY way to do it, is to do the hard work, and go out and find your own spots

Quankus, if you look close, you can see bluing in this photo
I wish I could show people in person. It is truely something I've never seen before here in the bay area. Right now I can't show anybody any fresh ones > see the rest of this thread.
But we're working on saving this. I don't think anybody has any idea what this is yet.It could be azurescens, but even if it is, it's obviously a new adapted strain.
As it stand now, it may take many months, possibly even a couple years to know for sure..Part of this may have to be done via dna testing, much like the new 'friscosas'.
I just wish *some* people would take more care with this. I would be fine if whoever dug parts of it up posted here and said something like "oh yea, we got a little part of it and were growing it out now".
But that hasn't happened..I have no idea what happened to those 'holes', as so many other pickers have described 'patch rapers'
What's particularly f*cked up about this, is the possibility it could be a once in a lifetime chance, a subspecies or strain, never to appear again...We don't know that yet, which makes it increasingly urgent that it be saved.
I just hope people reading this remember the next time they are picking...Sometimes you really have no idea of the rarity of your discoveries, until it's too late.
I hope that isn't true this time

Again auweia that really sucks that your patch has f*d with it and I doubt that anyone will fess up to it. I really hope this doesn't stop you from posting all the finds since it keeps me feeling energized to get out looking twice a week in my neighborhood.
Perhaps you should limit the posts to generalized areas, east bay, north bay, south bay and try not to put any distinguishing landmarks or signs in the picks. Again, good luck with that.

You guys are really competitive over there in frisco arn't you?
I just dont see much of this "patch raping" over in Oregony.

see those two dome like structures in the background?..apparently that shows up on Google Earth , sattelite...so if you know what city it is, you can narrow it down on those two structures :P
it's enough to make anybody paranoid, yes?....It's not what city I say it is, but in the future, I'm going to have to be more careful with these photos...Just so you know
