Are these reishi? Or at least Ganoderma sp?
    #5213147 - 01/23/06 03:59 AM (18 years, 2 months ago)

went hiking the other day and found a fair bit of these.

Its in southern taiwan, which is about 14-25 celcius in the day, and pretty/really humid on the mountains we were.  they are all fogged up so i would bet humidity is 85%+.

they were approximatly 1000 meters above sea level.  growing out of some kind of hardwood, dont know species, on the forest floor.  pretty good light, not dark like many of canadas forests.

they were pretty tiny only about 2" across.  they did have a shine to them although the pictures dont show it accuratly.

any other info needed for these guys?  i have no spore print :frown: sorry.

thanks for any help!!!

I don't think they are reishi, the ones I have found have all grown from the ground. They do have that lacquered look that Ganodermas have, but I'm not too sure. Here are some Ganoderma that I have found recently.

They look more like trametes to me. No reishi, I'm afraid.

Ganoderma species are found on wood frequently. Sometimes the wood is so rotted that defining it as ?wood? or ?soil? is pretty much arbitrary semantics. I know you don?t have a spore print but that would distinguish between the white spored Trametes and the brown spored Ganoderma. From your photos I would have to concur with koraks? they do look like Trametes.

Reishi has the dark red stem [-like structure] as shown in mitchnast's pic. Yours has a yellowish stem, and is smaller than the average reishi.

That looks a bit more like a turkey tail or some such mushroom. Still, a powerful medicinal. There are several species of Ganoderma. Here's one. Who can be the first to identify which species of Ganoderma it is?

Actually, I cloned that species and am working on grow teks. I'll post pictures one of these days to show what it can do. The species grows much better in captivitiy than G lucidum or G tsugai.
