Stay away from the hydrated lime. It's too strong and when the mycelia try to colonize it, it will get chemical burn. You want 5-10% of the total volume to be lime. Better yet if you have a way to measure PH ( they usually have testers in garden centers) you want to PH to be 7.8. More lime = higher PH.

That is like saying - stay away from water, as it will get you WET. :rolleyes:

Hydrated lime works fine, if you know how to use it & have the ability to test Ph.

I soak peat overnight in a mild hydrated lime solution, without ill effect.

Then, use oyster shell flour as a long term buffer.
