why not? i know it is used as a bulk substrate with hay or other things but why would it not work as a casing? its too late becasue the wombat already went forward with the plan so i guess he will let us know if it is sucessful.

hmmm....so will it not fruit because it has too much food available? once the castings/coco are colonized should the wombat use coco or normal 50/50 to case it again? i guess wombat will just find out what happens and report back. right now he has it in one of his secret lairs wraped in tinfoil.

i think youre going to have MAJOR contam problems, especially since u pastuerized and not PC'ed. Coco contams easier than 50/50+ or normal casings, and with the castings added you're headed for disaster. But if they don't contam (doubtful), they will fruit!

the wombat read of several sucesses using coco fiber with NO pasturization or sterilization with no contams in fact that is why they suggested the coco to begin with. the casintgs wombat was unsure about as he can not read very fast and could not find a lot of information....thats ok if it contams he will PC next time and put a new batch in. there's nothing that can be done but sit and wait. the others are fruiting right now so wombat has plenty of spatial alterators to keep him busy!

Hi, I use worm castings a lot. You have to play with moisture content to get the right feel. Too little and they dry out, too much and they can sort of melt together or clump. I usually use this recipe:

2:1:1 worm castings:dark rye flour:vermiculite

or 2:1:1:1 same as above but with one part sand.

Go ahead with coir as a casing, but you should sterilize it to be on the safe side. Sometimes coir harbors molds and other competitors. Better safe than sorry.

Worm castings really produce nice mushrooms. Good luck!
