Green contamination
    #5136979 - 01/03/06 11:10 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

i am a first timer and have a small question. i had started with 8 cakes and lost one right away to green mold. now the jars are almost completely colonized and i lost another one. but i have one that only has a very little bit on it and is almost completely colonized except for a little spot on the bottom. the grren was on the very top so i cut it totally off and put the jar back to see if it comes back or not. do you think this is safe or should i just toss it???

I would toss it.  You could cut it out and see what happens.  Chances are there is more there you just can't see.

Good luck

These guys are probably right. It's not worth risking health over a few saved fruits (that is if the mold doesn't take over in the fruiting chamber). On the other hand my "friend" and I tried and experiment with cased cake fruits that had green mold growing on them. They tasted like sh*t and had a weird buzz, but no sickness or other neg. side effect occured. I wasn't rich growing up, and I ate some moldy bread at times. I'm still here---sorta. After all, the antibiotic penecillin is made from mold, and that's good for you .
