mucus buildup? a sign of onset?

i dont know if this happens to anyone else but whenever i start to come up or even during the trip sometimes i get mucus build up in my nasal passage, the kind you can just swallow back like a back-of-the-throat-loogee situation, kinda like you've been outside on a very cold day for a long time, but i notice it happens mostly on the comeup of trips, and was curious as to if this was a side effect of the mushys and happens to others or just me

I think the rising energy in your body (ie, that anxious feeling one gets during the onset) causes your "liquid flow" to the head to improve.
Eyes water more, phlegm and mucous loosen in the throat and nasal cavity, and I tend to get the sensation that I'm just barely keeping my head above my own "water line" so to speak... as if I was literally a vessel filled with water, and the water line had reached very close to the point that would drown me in my own water. (It felt like being in a pool and keeping your nose just barely above the water line.)
Further, I think that your awareness of the presence of that mucous build-up is what really changes. It was there before, but in a more solid form. Now that it's been loosened and your awareness has been heightened, it's presence is terribly obvious.
That's been my experience with this type of thing anyway...

can't say that i've ever noticed that before. you might be just becoming more aware of what was already there.

actually, when i trip on mush, i actually end up coughing up a lot of shit. Every time without fail, it gets pretty nasty, but after the trip i can breathe pretty well for a day or two

Yeah... it seems mushrooms are the ultimate decongestant and expectorant. Some minor side effects...

I get the expectorant effect from acid, both coughing and nasal passages draining. I can't recall this happening from mushrooms, though, but it sounds normal to me. Also, I have a friend whose eyes water constantly while tripping (he once asked me if he ws crying blood) and then they get get mucousy after a few hours.

excessive sympathetic nervous system activity can cause a runny nose and a whole host of other effects. So can excessive hystamine levels from a mild allergic reaction.

About halfway through the trip I always become painfully aware that everything that my body normally excretes as a mucus turns to liquid. As my friend asked on his second trip, "Why is it that everything solid in my body turns runny and decides to come out through a hole in my face?"
