Could My buddy grow outdoors?

My friend lives in Vermont(New England, USA). In vermont it gets as low as -40F in the winter (only for moments though). In the summer it gets up to 105F(rarely though). Sometimes we (although I don't live in the same town) get like a week of 80-85F with high humidity, but we don't seem to get to many days of high humidity with temps in the mid 70's. When it does happen, it's only for a day usually, but sometimes 3 at max. Do you think my buddy could grow outdoors? He told me that he wouldn't mind if he even only got like 2 flushes in the summer. Also, what would be a good strain for these climates? If there is one, that is.
I don't know if the cubies will grow at all here... seeing as how I think they grow in the wild (all books say they don't). And by wild, we all know that I mean in fields
What conditions does Orissa India grow in naturally? I don't think of India as being a place for cubes... but then again, Ive never been.
peace, and thanks!

Psil. Cyans fruit very well in cold temps, same thing with semilanceata(lib caps). If he started his bed as soon as winter turned into spring and the temps dont drop past the 60's, he can do some outdoor grows no problem. Could probably get a flush or two in before the dead heat of summer.
Cubes are damn hardy fungi, they can take tons of shit and keep on flushing out, but extreme temps are something they have a hard time withstanding.

You could easily grow P. cubensis outdoors in the summer time. Obviously though, you will have to water the patch. Sounds like you could also do an outdoor bed of P. cyanescens for the winter tme.

India is a massive country and there are different temperature zones all over. The cubensis grow in the tropical areas where the conditions match the growth parameters of cubensis (obviously), which can be found here -
What are the optimum P. cubensis growth parameters?

McDoopy... I can't imagine Cyans working well... don't they require cold fruiting temps? or did you mean PAN cyans? what are Pan Cyans like? I really don't know much, well, anything actually, about Pans and I haven't found any info, although I haven't looked really hard... wanna give me some links maybe?

Otto, I didn't see your post above my 2nd... It gets NEGATIVE 40 DEGREES in the winter here. 3-5 feet of snow. As quoted from Google Calculator, -40 degrees Fahrenheit = -40 degrees Celsius
how could i protect the patch from extreme cold? possibly pile raw compost in mid fall and covering in a few layers of black plastic? Im asking because we all know compost generates heat, but if insulated, I think it might be able to generate enough heat to keep itself going and from freezing.
ideas?

Your outdoor woodlovers patch (P. cyanescens or similar) will start to fruit as those temps start to drop, and you will continue to get flushes until it gets TOO cold, at which time growth stops - and the mycelium will be fine lyind dormant under the snow. Now if you keep it watered during summer after the snow melts, and keep the mycelium alive, you will get further flushes when the next winter rolls by.

ok. whats the dampest that the patches can be? my buddy said he knows of a nice place that is borderline SEMI swamp in the spring/early summer, but then it stays nice and moist the rest of the year.... whatta you think?

Personaly Id steer clear of the swamp. But, you can only give it a shot and then you will know for sure.... experiment!
If your growing woodlovers there will be more than enough rain as the winter is setting in - this is what triggers the fruiting. If your growing cubes - just keep em in a shady spot and hand mist the patch daily (or whenever it looks as though it needs it) when the weather is warmer. Make sure that the spots you choose are shaded by bushes/scrub. Do some more reading and you will be successful.
