first time - are these contaminated?? (pics)
    #5116392 - 12/28/05 06:43 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

i picked some shrooms out of these rice cakes about 24 hrs. before these pictures were taken. the cakes look a little worse in these pictures than they did when i picked the shrooms. also, the shrooms seem to look fine; nice size and no wierd or black coloring, although i'm not sure if they are safe to eat if they've been growing in contaminated cakes. i think maybe i should just start over. some help would be greatly appreciated....

oh yeah, the chunks taken out of the cakes were early contamination that was removed, is that safe to do?

How mature were the fruits that you picked off of that? The dark spots look like they could have come from spores being dropped. If this -not- the case, then you should throw it out. The other discoloration, looks like it MIGHT be blueing... maybe from handling, maybe from the cake drying out.

Either way, if either of those spots decide to grow on you, then you should definately throw it out. But it just looks like it might be blueing with a couple of spore stains.

To me it looks like spores and blueing due to drying out. Give those suckers a dunk over night in the fridge with some h2o2 and water. If there is green, grey, pink or bright yellow toss them, other wise dunk and wait.

You said you had early contams; were they green contams? That look completely green on the inside to me, not just from bruising. If it is green mold, it's spreading spores everywhere being open like that and has good potential to mess things up on down the line.

please remove them from your house immediately....they are very much contaminated and should not be dealt with in any other way but tossing them out. I'm sure spores have already been spread all over the place from them so get them out before you help the population survive any more.

this one looked like a pile of moldy maggots to me at first glance:

:peace:

There's absolutely nothing wrong with those mushrooms. Yes, there's bacteria present, but DO NOT throw them away. They are fine for consumption if they are CRACKER DRY.....

If you're concerned with the bacteria, simply make a hot tea out of them and enjoy....

i wouldn't take a chance...can always grow more. slowly and carefully put that mofo in a bag and close it and take it to the dump. your whole area is now a contam zone..you need to bleach everything.
