Oh NO! Nearest Lowes out of Verm - Stright Coir alright?

So I have about 40 cakes and 4 quarts of popcorn that are about 1 week over full colonization. I have always used just verm for my dunk and rolls with amazing success. Lowes (the nearest one is a 25min drive.) To my suprise they were out of Verm!!
Has anyone used straight coir to roll, I would also have to use if for my popcorn casings. I know the grocery store up the street sells it, so Im going to have to give it a try but would like some input from people that have used straight coir before.

If your out of verm, then your going to have to make without it. 40 cakes and 4 quarts is alot of shit. Get those babys fruiting soon. I suggest for 20 of the pf cakes fruit normal. Just dunk them and dont roll. And the other 20 just crumble in a zuplock bag, wait 24 hrs, then case with straight coir. As for the popcorn... Im not too familiar. Try casing and if you can try fruiting those as cakes. If you have poo or hay, you could spawn any of these to it with great sucess if your sterile. My best of luck with you.

Yes , you can use straight coco coir if you have to . Watch for overlay . Coir does contain some nutrients and is known to colonize rather quickly when used as a casing layer and tends to overlay .
When I used it straight , I cased my tubs and only put them back in the incubator for a day . Removed and fruited .

Right. You can use straight coir for a casing layer indeed. As soon as your patch work is done and your rhizo coverage is good, start to induce a lot of light for pinning. If you feel you need to aerate the casing material some, simply use perlite in place of vermiculite.....

Thanks everyone, Im going for it and will order some verm online for future use. Picked up the coir from the store and then just nuked it in the pressure cooker for about 45min. Didnt want to take any chances seeing as I figured it probably had a little bit of nutrients in it. Hippie, thanks you confirmed that suspicion.
I had also thought about the perlite/coir mixture but the perlite I have has miracle grow in it so I quickly dismissed that Idea as well.
Looks like its straight coir tommorow when I case/roll.
I let you guys know how it works. thanks

Trying to roll your cakes in coir will be useless prolly. Use the double end casing tek in place of the roll for better results with cakes. Coir will be fine for the cased seed.....
