sterilize hydroton?

I am putting hydroton in my fruting chamber. I've searched for techniques/requirements to sterilizing hydroton on whether it is necessary, but i couldn't find any specific info on it.

My question, does hydroton need to be sterilized? if so, how can it be done?

I did mine, it had a lot of red dust with the rocks, I put mine in a 5 gal bucket, with hot water and around a few ozs of bleach, soaked for a little while, then poured the bleach/water out and filled with hot water, to rinse. But I dont really know if its required, I just fiqured it couldn,t hurt.

Oh okay. cool. alright. Does it need to be sterilized again after it has been used in the fruiting chamber?

I do mine sorta like Rod does...

I soak it in hot bleachy water overnight...then do about 4 or 5 rinses over the course of a day.

Never had any problems doing it this way...in the past 4 years.

If you have a large enough pressure cooker...you could also sterilize it that way.
