Last resort to help my mycelium?
    #5094889 - 12/22/05 05:52 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

Ok, attempted my first grow, but neglected to put foil over my jar lids when I pc'ed them. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks and no visible sign of mycelium on my grain, I think theyre too dry possibly to grow mycelium. My question is should I scrap the whole batch, or should I boil some water, sterilize a needle and add some water to my jars?

Whole wheat grain( couldnt find rye locally), 1 pint jars, 4 holes on each lid, soaked the grain for 12-13 hours before pc'ing, then the next morning inoculated with a syringe of b+ spores, from microtech. Put them in a rubbermaid tub, have been holding at 80-85 degree temperatures.

I've salvaged dry jars by injecting a bit of sterile water into them. If nothing else works, why not give it a shot - what have you got to lose? Remember to start with a small amount of water, no more than a cc for a quart jar.

I'm not talking from experience, but if your holes are fairly small, I don't know if not using foil would make a huge difference.

How are you providing heat for incubation?
