Psilocybe vs. Galerina (pics)
    #508870 - 01/03/02 11:49 AM (22 years, 2 months ago)

I just posted to show you some pics of this two diferent (but look-a-like) species. Galerinas can be deadlly and sometimes they resemble some psilocybe species. Watch the diference, gills color, viscid pelicle and then spore print color, Galerinas sp should be rusty brown/orange, psilocybes sp color should be black/purple. Also Galerinas are a more "fleshy" than psilocybes, specially on the stem. The psilocybe is a Coprophila BTW.

Can you say wich one is the psilocybe ?

...and what if you see the gills ?

The two of them are in the upper left corner, the others, a collection of stropharias (wich i don't relly know what they are), a small Pan. Sphrinctus , more coprophilas and one more galerina (you can see the sp color).

Hope you have enjoyed.
Peace,
MAIA

Good idea MAIA, but you should have posted that Galerina with a Psilocybe cyanescens and a stuntzii as I did iat my site on comparison.

http://mjshroomer.yage.net/species.html

click on the poisonous look-a-likes and you can see the comparison as it should be shown.

P. coprophila is not even psychoactive and to compare it is all right but youl should of shown other psilocybes which one mitght encounteer together as P. cyanescens, P. stuntzii and Galerina marginata, Galerina venenata, Galerina autunalis and Conocybe filaris, all grow in alder chips and sometimes intermigle with each other growing either above or beow the posinous look-alikes.

mj

Still a good post

Nice post and pics MAIA :)

You won't eat it if its growing from a log, jammer??? What about oyster mushrooms, they are choice edibles that grow from fallen oak logs, your missing out if your passing these by!

LK,
