my brother, the physics professor

one thing that i think is really cool is that my brother is currently a physics undergrad, at the top of his class, he's pulling perfect 4.0 and has 3 semesters left to go. he is going to get about a 40k stipend to go to grad school for 4 years to one of the best theoretical physics schools in the country. anyways, he just recently took his first trip (salvia) and plans to take mushrooms soon. so one thing ive learned from him is that basically every physics kid at school trips. they even suspect more than one of the professors of being a tripper. i think its really cool, the link between being the brighest minds in the world, coming up with theories of the universe, and being trippers (and some of them potheads). i think there's something to that.

I have a friend who is graduating with a degree in theoretical physics in a week or two. He loathes it and is immensely happy that he is going to be done.

Physics pisses me off to no end. If you like it however, more power to you.

I enjoyed how easy physics was, but I have no love for it beyond that. It can be fun and all, but it would get old FAST.
Chemistry is just far more fun. Mostly because I can make things that explode.

I prefer more applied concepts like engineering type stuff. I don't even know what kind of a job you could get with a bachelors in physics.

Neither do I... physics seems to me to be the kind of subject that you need a Masters/PhD in to even matter to anyone. all or nothing, blokes.

A physics degree would be perfectly okay for a programming job.

Biology is the same way. I'm going to have to go to grad school if I want to use my degree at all.

Was Pink Floyd in school for physics or something like that?

Yes, Mr. Floyd received a BS in Physics from MIT. He got teased a bit due to his first name, Pink.

actually, the things you can do with a physics degree are almost limitless. MOST people graduating with a phd in physics go work at a big company with a fancy job title where basically they are paid between 300 and 500 a year for their analytical thinking skills. so a lot of the graduates do that for a few years, then switch back to academia after they are financially secure.

Thats awesome that your brother has the sort of mind that can really absorb and understand the concepts of physics.
I really respect people who are scientifically minded, mostly because I am not, and I really wish I was.
Best of luck to your bro, hope he takes the physics world by storm
on a similar note, someone told me that there in an 8 year old in korea (not sure which one) who is in college studying superstring theory. Im not too sure of the validity of this, but i wouldnt doubt it.

Physics is easy.
It's the mathematics behind it that get complicated.
Take string theory, for example. The main ideas are all fairly simple - all "particles" are actually closed loops of string vibrating in a 11 dimensional space.
Then you have to start looking at wacked-out math ideas like Calabi-Yau spaces.
