Damn virus
    #5014959 - 12/04/05 06:27 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

Well I got a virus a while back and I had to reinstall XP and wipe my hard drive. I have all the software and stuff so it was no problem. Everything was fine and I got rid of the virus. A few weeks later, I accidentally got the same virus again (Don't ask) and had to do the same thing. Only this time I was rushing through the installation and somehow I installed windows XP twice on my computer or something. Not sure exactly what's going on, because when I was selecting the partition to install it on, I couldn't overwrite the first one because it said that the temporary installation files were located on that partition. The first time when I installed it I did it the same way with no problem though.

Now whenever I boot up my computer, It gives me 30 seconds to choose between "Windows XP Home Edition" and "Windows XP Home Edition." One leads to the desktop that I have been using, and the other is just an unused/fresh desktop with no software or files or anything on it.

Because of this, my comp has been running quite a bit slower than usual.

Help!

Thier is no reason it should be making it slower, it just installed the second one on a second partition. This happens with screwy crappily made things, get linux instead.

I think both are installed on the same partition. Nobody knows how to delete one of the Windows XP versions?

just reformat the whole damn thing again and reinstall, if you format the entire drive first, it will be blank

This is only if it is the first option that loads you to your desktop, if not, I'll see if I can find out how to erase the other one.

Start -> control panel -> Performance and maintenance -> system -> advanced -> settings under startup and recovery -> Uncheck Display list of operating systems

How do I go about just wiping my hard drive clean? I don't want to go through the whole installation again and find out I can't overwrite the partition. I've been having some other problems which I shouldn't be having with this nice of comp.

start the windows installation again and re-format from there...or there may be an option to clear it in your BIOS...
