Pans Cyans werent just that.. have a look....
    #5000173 - 11/30/05 07:56 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

 ... so .. as some know we were working on a project with panaleous cyanescens, they are upposed to be a beutiful looking mushroom, long and skinny, oh so.. potent. I worked my ass off trying to grow these little suckers, got the spores from spores101, syringe was indeed labeled "pan cyan" well I got to work right away read tons of stuff about cyans, and began growing them.. this is what I got.

(a pic of pins)

( a little more mature) notice the cracking started very early so it was hard to correct it, but rh is much higher now.

(latest pics, not pans huh?)

Tell me what you guys think, not trying to slander spores101, if they're gonna send ya cyan spores, I at least want the real thing.

Did your humidity get really low? Looks like those caps cracked.

They look to weird to me and so young still. But those do look like cube pins.... I haven't seen pan pins so this is unfamiliar to me.

EDIT: the more I look at them the more they confuse me... I think you need to get an expert ID for sure.

if i only saw that last pic i'd think you got some albinos. but the pins were colored so it must just be the flash playing tricks.

Those are not pans. Pan pins start out as tiny little dots. When they grow, they grow tall and skinny.
Here are some pan pins.

Those spores were obviously not pan spores.

Or through some freak accident cube spores contamd his substrate and took over the cyan's :P. That would be funny haha, having a cube contamination.

i think its something wrong with your conditions man. Obviously something was wrong if those caps were cracking right away. That pic is from a grow by nimbus, i snagged it from the grow archive. Besides those big mutants the other pins look like the pins in this pic.

Those are definately cubensis, they are a bit malformed due to low humidity. They might look a bit unpleasent but they should be very dense and high quality.

Cubensis contamination is fairly common with pan cyan grows. It has even happened to me with a flush or two of pans and then cubes start popping from the same tray.

For this to be a possibility you would have needed to grow a fair amount of cubensis already to saturate your growing area with cubensis spores. The substrate should have started out with thin whispy grey mycelium and a longer than average period of time will need to pass before the cubensis pins appeared. The cubensis needs time to overgrow the pan mycelium before fruiting.

If neither of these are true then the syringe is most likely mislabeled. I am sure you can request a replacement with no problems.

Cubes. And, get the standing water out of your perlite and the humidity will go way up. Any standing water at all in your perlite will actually lower the humidity in your growing environment.

This is the most accurate thing I have heard so far.

1. I have grown alot of cubensis in the area that I grew the "cyans"
2. It took a very long time for the cubes to fruit
3. grey whispy mycelium was present for a short time before the thicker mycelium took over ( I thought it was natural )
4. Every autoclavable bag I sealed, I sealed in the area where the cubes were previously grown.

Cubensis Contamination... who'd a thought.

My experience with Spores 101 is that they will replace spore syringes readily, usually with added benefits for the trouble.
