Quaker oat substrate
    #4972435 - 11/23/05 01:23 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

Out of curiousity, has anyone attempted to use either organic granola, organic oatmeal, or organic corn meal as a substrate? I went to the farm store today and they were clearing a bunch of it out, so I'm considering running back and grabbing up some.

I'm not 100% sure if they'd work nutrient wise.

Edit: Checked out some of the post history on oatmeal, and it doesn't look too great. However I can't find anything about the corn meal or the granola.

My real concern with the meal is that it'd probobly be full of starch and yeast - not sure how the spores would like that.

Anything that turns to soggy mush.... is not a good thing.

Best substrate has a very high fiber consistency.
