I need alternatives to petri dishes

I am ready to colonize some more jars. Afer I buy a PC tonight I am going in the store to look for something I can use in place of a petri dish.
I have many spore prints but not alot of money right now to order anything , plus it's the weekend. is there anything that can be used, such as Rubbermaid take-alongs, they are heat resistant and can be sterylized, what if I put a small layer of agar alog the bottom of a sterilized rubbermaid take along? would that not work?

As long as it has a Recycle # of 5 or above they will stand up to the pressure cooker. I've used those plastic containers i get from the Chinese Takeout with no problems.

This is something that was just posted the outher day.

I think I'm going to give this a shot myself.

Hey WhiteBunny, There is a way to save these teks to your hard drive. In Internet Explorer click file, then click save as, then where it says, save as type, click Web Page,HTML only. then click save. It saves the page to your hard drive and you will be ale to view the web page offline. Its close to the same procedure for outher web browers too, if your not useing internet explorer.

Or you can use a notepad on your computer... and copy and paste the urls of pages you want to save. then list what they are next to the urls.
like these...
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23322 <-- good grain recipes
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/25308 <-- shroomery site map
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23418 <-- contam guide
to find the notepad on your computer... click start, programs, accessories and notepad should be listed.

Well, I didn't post that "just the other day", it was a few months ago when I wrote that tek, lol. But, it still works great either way. Give it a try. Just remember to follow it to the letter-this Tek is using rice instead of agar and it is more likely to contam if not done properly. But, done properly, you should have good/clean colonised jars in about 2 weeks or less.

I bought all my glass petri dishes off Ebay.
one warning though...
INSURE them!~
I bought 24 from this one seller... they didn't pack them right and I had alot of broken petri dishes in the box. the gal that was the seller knew nothing about packing petri dishes...she bought them at a local lab going out of business sale. it was a big head ache...but at least they were insured.
