Xanax? Effexor XR?

She (the Doc.) pretty much took 1 look at me and agreed that I had bad anxiety issues. I told her I was a nervous stressed out mess and she wanted to give me paxil. I told her that I took it once, which I did, and it made me loopy. So she game me .25 xanax and something called "Effexor XR". (venlafaxine)
Do any of you know what that is? It's suppose to calm down the nerves as well.

I think that SSRIs are shit. The entire philosophy behind them deeply scares me. The idea that learned or acclimated behavior (pretty much all of human behavior) can be altered with continuous application of chemicals really misses the point that the behavior is learned.
My advice to you is to go and find this Poppyguy character, and when you do, to give him a hug.
DISLCAIMER DISCLAIMER: I'm not a doctor. I failed chemistry. All I know is that I hated paxil when I was taking it.

Xanax helped me when I had panic attacks. I never wanted the SSRI's.
Watch out, xanax can be extremely habit forming.

never had effexor, but I have been on every other psychotropic drug out there. SSRI's will fuck up your sex life. Paxil gave me superboner without the ability to cum.
xanax is very addicting.

Well, I'm not going to take them. These xanax seem to be working, not as great as I had hoped, still clenched jaw and a few shakes. I don't want to take another .25mg I don't want to be addicted to a drug again.

I'd suggest checking out this link. It's a pretty honest write up about effexor. http://www.crazymeds.org/effexor.html
Personally, I've been on Effexor for about a month and a half now, and am taking a 150mg. I have experienced no ill effects, except for during the first week, and even then it was only things like tight muscles, a little twitching, and a little nervousness. It has helped my depression and also my anxiety...That's really all of the problems I had, but they were pretty bad. I'm doing well now, no more thoughts of death, and I can actually talk to people! (sometimes .
Anyway, some people curse SSRIs as being the devil, but I personally don't know if I'd be alive for another year if I hadn't started taking them. I suggest not ruling Effexor out, but read into it, because there can be a lot of bad side effects.
Referring to Effexor making you go insane if you stop, no it won't, but those who take Effexor to help with Bipolar syndrome are more likely (I don't know how likely) to become afflicted with Seratonin Syndrome, and will have to take the medication for the rest of their lives. Just about everyone else that quits gets pretty bad withdrawals, unless they taper their dosage down VERY slowly. People who quit cold turkey are usually in Hell for a week or so....so, uhh...don't do that.
