Cottony mycelium is very common. Cobweb has a distinct grey tint to it. If everything is snow white, you're ok.

Any contact with the mushroom should really cause some bruising.

Try scraping lightly with a QTip, if nothing comes off, it's likely just bruising.

Also, if it's cobweb it will melt on contact with 3% peroxide full strength out of the bottle. If it's mushroom mycelium, it will stay put and recover in a day or two. Just spray some peroxide on a small part of it and see what happens. If it disappears on contact, spray the rest of it and get rid of the stuff.
