Beginner strain Q
    #4845841 - 10/24/05 01:42 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

I am finally gonna take the plunge and attempt to cultivate some shrooms .I plan on getting the beginners kit from Mike O'Logicals, but I am having problems picking a strain. My house stays anywhere between 75-80 degrees all day. Since we are starting to get winter weather it might dip, but no lower than 70. I want to pick the strain that will be best in this condition. Thanks for all the hel.

Get a strain that is a fast colonizer. I say this for two reasons. One, myself including, first couple of grows one gets very impatient, and two because the faster the colonization/fruiting, the less chance of getting contams.

Yeah I was definitly planning on getting a fast colonizer. Plus Mike O'Logicals kit uses 1/2 pint jars so that should help with the rate of colonization. If you were to pick a strain that colonizes fast and is fairly easy to fruit what would you choose?

EQ is a forgiving strain, IMHO.

Or z-strain. I haven't tried it yet but find it interesting to read about. So far Mexi-cube has proven to me to be reistant to contams and colonizes quickly. 1 week and a 1/2 pint BRF is 80%+ colonized.

Still having trouble picking a strain, but I am most likely going to go with the Z strain since it has a pretty fast colonization rate. Which would be good for me.

If you think z-strain is good for you because of the speed, you're probably right. Go with it!

i like EQ cause that was my first try, but i'm telling you, these brazilians are colonizing twice as fast.

I havent tried the EQ, or the Brazilians, but the cambos, do
seem to very quick, and for sure the Z strain is very fast,
but I havent tasted the Z yet, I had too take a time-out.

Thi Koh Sumi are fast colonizers. Most Thi strains are fast colonizers. I don't think you could go wrong tring this or another Thi strain.
