i've experienced ~pure chaos~
quite a schizophrenic experience I must say... it's been downhill ever since then...
although I don't understand your definition of "pure chaos"... do you mean "internal chaos", like between your deeper self and the ego, or external chaos, like your ego with the external world (which everyone seems to have)
in the audiobook by ray kurzweil, "age of spiritual machines" he mentions that when there is chaos, time speeds up, and when you grow older (less chaos) time slows down... so your sense of time is determined by chaos... and by order... don't quote me on this or anything... I may have gotten his theory backwards, but it is something to look into...
ray kurzweil mentions that when the universe was formed... everything was close together, so time was still, but after the big bang, there was chaos, then there is order... etc
I have to say, yes chaos can be experienced... not just on personal beliefs, but since the universe experiences chaos, and we are animated parts of the universe, we should be able to experience chaos too...
interesting thread.

im not sure, i dont think i have ever experienced it.
IMO, it would have to be 100% unguided and uncontrolled.
as well as the chaos being intrinsic.
those are the only real criteria for "pure chaos" i can think of.

I don't know what to define as the "experience of chaos". What is "chaos" other than an abstract mathematical concept we use to describe nature?
What kind of thing is "chaos" that it can be experienced?

Chaos is the nature of reality. We all experience it every day.
-------------------- "A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

well, lets say that we have some system or occurence which adheres to the aforementioned criteria. would not your own presence and perception be some form of external control, your actual experience with chaos would become unpure IMO.

As our brain tries to get order out of everything, this would be quite complicated. But if overflow of information counts as chaos, I experienced this especially on shroom-overdoses

Hey guys, is it possible to experience some whacked out shit? Yeah?
How about the whackedest outedest shit ever? Is it possible to experience that? Discuss in depth, please.

chaos doesnt have to mean whacked out shit.
Maybe nothing is purely chaotic. I was just musing about if something was intrinsicly chaotic and you attempted to experience it, would your own experience have some external effect upon the chaos?

How is purity relative? can you get more than 100% purity?
and isnt your second statement pretty much a given here at the Philo forum? I agree with the statement, but lets see what happens if we put out the "absolute police" on the entire P forum.

My point is... does that even mean anything?
Can you experience 4? Can you experience the quadratic equation?
"Chaos" isn't an experience. Bungee jumping is an experience. You can certainly experience bungee jumping. Abstract mathematical concepts? Well, those aren't experiences, those are mathematical concepts.
What does it mean to experience a mathematical concept? If I eat seven hamburgers, would that mean that I experienced seven? Could I jump up and say "NOW I know what sevenness is all about!"?
"Experiencing chaos" is a phrase that could perhaps take on different meanings in a literary context, but when you're trying to discuss actual concepts, it really doesn't have any meaning.
