Scratching - Need Help
    #4794937 - 10/12/05 07:52 PM (18 years, 6 months ago)

I have had a 50/50 (Verm/Peat) casing going for about 6 days now, and I put it in the FC and gave it light, FAE and humidity about 2 days ago. I think I put too much casing layer on top of the substrate. I have a few spots on the side where the MYC is peeking aggressively through, and a very thin layer all around.

Could the casing layer be too thick/hard? When I put it on top, I squeezed it pretty hard in my handsto get excess water out, then smoothed it out. Might the MYC be having too much trouble getting through?

Would it be worth doing a light scratching to open up some avenues for the MYC? Or should I just leave for longer?

Here are the pictures

Here is a spot of agressive MYC. You can see the light cover above it as well.

Here is a side view of the case.

Also, any ideas to get humidity up in a fruiting chamber?

Thanks,
Brandon

AFAIK, scratching is a last resort. Your problem is the result of a varying depth of substrate. This post explores a similar problem. Since it's already in FC, I'd assume you'll just let it be, but someone might have a better suggestion.

how thick is your casing? I always keep mine real thin around 1/2 inch no more than an inch. every with a deep horse poo substrate, I keep my casing thin and just recase after flush. just wait it out. keep a 12/12 light cycle going and drop your temp to the mid 70s (temperature shock). also rh around 95%. good luck.

humidity options include but are not limited to...
humidifiers, misting, and perlite...
