Bugged Modems?
    #4787769 - 10/11/05 03:01 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

My friends uncle has talked of cops sending out bugged modems/routers, when the police get your ISP to change a setting on their end to make it look like the device is malfunctioning. He may just be paranoid, but has anyone ever heard of this implemented?

If they want to monitor your internet activity, they can do it without bugging the physical modem itself. With the ISP's cooperation, the hardware isn't really all that important.

paranoid I'd say.

Once the cops threaten the ISP with a warrant, they usually roll over on whatever they want them to do.

if they really want to monitor your activities, they have something called tempest
even your ISP doesnt need to know anything.
