Technological potential of man-made diamonds

There is an interesting article on the USA Today website about a small company producing CVD diamonds. The potential for diamonds in todays technological world is extremely large. What effect do you think this will have on society, the way we live, and the technology we posses?
I think CVD diamonds could be used in space technology to produce faster, more efficient propulsion methods. Combined with the advances in computer technology due to diamonds, and the extremely powerful lasers we will develop...... STAR WARS!!

if it weren't for man-made diamonds, we would never have had the machining capacity to win WWII
diamonds and rubies are a machinists best friend, especially one who works with hard steel...

Be interesting to see if they remain "a girls best friend".

I doubt they will. DeBeers has done an excellent job over the years of hyping up their diamonds to bullshit extremes.

That's a good article. I never realized diamonds had so many uses. Sounds like they will revolutionize the computer industry. I don't even have 10,000 songs to put on an ipod, let alone 10,000 videos. I'd better get back to downloading now.

And violently stealing the mines upon discovery. They have an amazing grip on an industry... and a lot of corruption... They like to incite rival indiginous groups to wage war against each other to thin out the number of people around the mines.

You can even take your dead bodies ashes and create a artificial diamond from the carbon

I read this article in the Science section of the New York Times, probably....9 years ago? It was an article on how these guys figured out how to coat things in diamond using laser beams and a stream of carbon gas. They were talking about coating watches, CD's, soda cans, etc. Forward 9 years to today....nada.
Anyone else check out www.lifegem.com? apparently you can send the creamated remaines of your loved ones or pets, and they can turn it into a diamond.
Also, an article about man made diamonds over 2 years ago. Still haven't seen any applications. http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.09/diamond.html
