Buying Into The Close-minded Hierarchy

Whether it is religion, politics, street gangs, or message boards, what purpose is there in respecting hierarchal authority? If there is always a potential for abuse, why bother? Why shouldn't all folks be treated as equal? Does it stem from insecurity? An instinctual need to control? What gives the weak the right to be protected in the land of the strong?

Maybe the weak only have that right because some strong ones want to protect them from other strong ones.

In a spiritual sense all should. Yet some folks are unskillful at living in community. All you can hope for is leadership benevolent to some degree. Most leaders come from the ranks of the most unskillful unfortunately. They seek power because they feel powerless in their living. They seek to conquer their fear in the most unskillful way. Confusion and stress ensues.

There are weak people, and there are strong people. There are also lots of steps in between those extremes. It is the law of the land. The strong have a right and a duty to lead.

"Ultimately, the only power to which man should aspire is that which he exercises over himself." but isn't charisma power over others? why is charisma a bad thing?
maybe hierarchy happens because people aren't equal to begin with. some are faster, some are stronger, some are richer, etc.

Charisma is having the charm that may enable one to have power over another. The charisma isn't bad, the abuse of it may be though.

Indeed. Which is why I asked "What gives the weak the right to be protected in the land of the strong?"

consider: you could wake up weak at any moment yet be a complete self. you could wake up strong at any moment but be a hazard to self and others. a benefit of society is to protect all equally, weakness and strongness fluctuates daily. being able to adjust and make new beginnings is very important.

let me get this straight, the rationale behind "the weak should be protected" is that this protects us all.
IOW it's a purely practical rationale. "rights" have a purely practical meaning. morality is a mirage.
what do you think?

The rationale I view for the mindset that the weak should be protected stems from fear. Fear of eventually becomming weak. The fear of failure or death.
I think if every person worried solely about themself things would be much better off.
Having a system of authority is not conducive to survival of the fittest. When the weak, whether physically, mentally, financially or morally, are protected, the strong suffer. Unless they find a way to manipulate the system and use the weaknesses to their advantage(politics).
