Substrate Questions

Was wondering if brown rice flour can be used by itself as a substrate, or if perlite can be substituted for vermiculite in the mixture. Any help is appreciated.

No. BRF and just water won't do it. Might as well try concrete,lol.
The texture won't really allow for good colonization.
I wouldn't sub perlite for verm, but I have heard of a few peeps doing it. More so in casing layers then jars though.

i think you can do perlite for verm but its not a good idea as verm has the moisture and texture you want but perlite will not do well with moisture retention.
