I think that is a part of it. I'm pretty sure the word assassin comes from the hashashins in the middle east that would smoke weed before battle. I don't know how well that would've worked if they were insanely paranoid while they were fighting. Imagine realizing you're playing a part in a huge conspiracy with your tribe while trying to fight for your life?

You're right about the 'Hassasins' smoking hash, but the accounts I heard, is that they would smoke AFTER the fight... after the blood and guts, death glory etc, to chill the fuck out.
I don't think someone smoking hash is going to be quick and quite like an assassin should have been :

yeah...... the paranoia for me is 100% because of it being illegal for me.

well okay, 75% because of the law, and 25% because it makes me hyperattentive to all sorts of noises and brings up my latent fears.
