i'm buying a chainsaw
    #4672765 - 09/17/05 01:53 AM (18 years, 6 months ago)

I plan on taking down three or four dead trees and one live gangly nasty tree this weekend. The dead trees are sugar maple so they'll be good firewood and the nasty tree is, ah, I think a birch tree. I'm going to buy a chainsaw with at least a 18" bar on it. Hopefullly that will be thick enough to do the job
Any recommendations?

doesn't really matter what size the chainsaw, basically just the smaller it is the longer it's going to take.

Well, if the tree i'm felling has a 24" diameter and the bar is 18", i'm going to have to guess how to do this. How hard can it be!

hah

unless it's a small tree, you don't usually go straight through or your chain is going to get stuck. plus, if you go straight through, you won't be able to control where it falls.

Yea, I'm going to cut a "wedge" in it in the direction I want (hope, pray) that it wil fall. However, the 'wedge' is usually about 1/3rd of the way into the tree, meaning that a 22" diameter would be a ew more inches than my saw can handle We'll see
