50/50+ Tek and Lime Questions

After reading and rereading this tek several times and a few posts on the subject, i'm a little confused about the type of lime I need. The only kind I could find at any store was Lilly Miller Garden Lime at Lowes. I read in the 50/50+ tek that dolomitic lime is not good, but this stuff says its derived from dolomitic limestone... wtf?
The side of the box says Calcium (Ca) - 20% Magnesium (Mg)- 11% Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) - 50% Magnesium carbonate (MgCO2) - 40% Calcium cabonate equivalent (by AOAC method) - 94%
Is this stuff gonna work or not? If it doesn't, i'm hosed for a casing layer again, as I need it by tomorrow and I can't find any other kind of lime, calcium carbonate, oyster shells (crushed or not), or even Coco Coir if I were to do away with the lime! Am i screwed or what?

You need to find the stuff that says "to sweeten the soil" on it or something along those lines

Simply put that magnesium is not good whatsoever. If you go to petco they sell this stuff for reptiles to boost calcium...repti aid or calci aid or something like that it's a suppliment for reptiles and you put it on their food in their cage. It is pure calcium carbonate and should work for you.

well unfortunately not all bags of lime are sold in every store world wide (or even nationwide for that matter)... i've called around, this is the ONLY kind available. It does say "Helps correct acid soils. Contains calcium and magnesium. Easy to apply - not dusty."

I would try a nursery or try to look for it online. I'd be pretty pissed if I couldn't get my casing to fruit because I used something I wasn't sure of

I just bought pretty much the same lime this morning. I was told that magnesium is bad. So try this place...call the number and it's on the way.

i had to give up on peat moss altogether. i could not find any lime other than what i bought, and this won't do. I lucked out and finally found some Eco Earth coco fiber at a pet store. BTW, ppl look at you like your a mushroom grower if you ask for "coco coir"...

Yeah, but you'll have much better results adding some lime to that coir too. Coir is very rarely neutral pH like some people say it is. Not saying it won't work, just saying I'd find a good source of lime if I was casing with just about anything.
You can get lab grade calcium carbonate (lime) from sporeworks as well.
Nearly all large pet stores (like petsmart etc) sell little boxes of crushed oyster shell in the bird section. I short run through the blender turns it into a nice powder.

good info for next time, thanks. I already cased with the 60/40 tek, hope it turns out okay. I was a little worried about using lime anyway since i don't have a way to measure ph... it'd all been guesswork which isn't my game.
I called everywhere for lime, and the most common fuckin question is "what do you need it for?" grrr! Don't answer a simple question with a question, just yes or no! Anyways, i'm moving soon, so hopefully i'll be able to find it where I'm going, cuz obviously it simply doesn't exist out here.

it will turn out fine without it.
The good thing about lime (calcium carbonate) is that it's hard to use too much, unlike hydrated lime which you absolutely must measure, very very carefully, or better yet just don't use hydrated lime.
