Second Flush?
    #4649287 - 09/12/05 06:27 AM (18 years, 6 months ago)

OK i need help what am i doing wrong? I've had a half doz or so casings and I cant seem to get a decent second flush. The first two i harvested everything shrooms aborts, pinns...everything, soaked one dunked the other and re cased the edges and a light coat on top.(coco/verm )
The other two I didn't pick what looked like good pinns but spayed one and dunked the other ... re cased the sides and lightly coated the top with casing mix. these two the old pinns look to be aborting and are covered in heavy white myc.
Please help what did i do wrong? should i not add more casing on top... i have noticed that the myc is taking its energy and putting it into colonizing the casing mix. I hear that it takes a week or two to second flush ... at this rate it'll be 4 weeks or better.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.
thanx

Sounds like the humidity is too high. And also what are your temps at? I havent done a casing but read up on them and i know fruiting is a little different than cakes. Where with cakes you want 100% (im not sure on casing but im going off the top of my head and saying you need 85%-90% but dont quote me on that) I also know if your temps are too high (incubation temps) Myc. will continue to form.

Humidity will depend on where you live too...I know where I live i can just put my casing on the windowsill and spray it occasionally to keep it moist and have good results. Is it always the case that your first flush is good and then the following flushes are bad? What substrate are you using...one recomendation I would have, but it may be too late for, is to do some deep scratching with a sterile fork and case on top of that...one way to get a good pinset is to have even substrate/casing layer and by scratching you can even out your substrate again after being taken apart by the first flush.

Should i just scratch and not add new casing mix?
