i think if he starts fuckign with oil company profits, bush's buddies he's dead. i know he's been threatening to bypass them to get oil to america's poor at bargain basement prices. the conservatives already tried to knock him off through the worldbank funded attempted coup. i love the guy though. he's a leftist, he had big balls and he spits in bush's face. personally, i think he's dead soon though.

ha his gas would NEVER make it here. first the govt wouldnt let it in. that might piss a bunch of people off..soo the right wing media machine (fox, limbaugh, etc) would get to quickly demonizing him. he would be compared with every horrible dictator, ever. these righties would never let a socialist look good with the american people. it would make their rich selfish asses look stupid

Oil production is down under Chavez. Despite high oil prices, more people in Venezuala live in poverty now than did in the 1980s. That used to be a predominately middle class country. Chavez is corrupt and he is running that country into the ground.

Any links to support that statement? Is it possible this could be due to population expansion? More people = more people of every class.

Actually during the coup the mainstream media demonized him. He only has control over the government TV station (i believe there is only one). The rest are private corporations

No, he doesn't. There is one pro-Chavez news station, the others are privately funded by those who oppose him and make up ludicrous accusations, such as that he has a sexual fixation with Fidel Castro. Can you imagine the outrage that would happen in our country if someone suggested George W. Bush had a sexual fixation with Donald Rumsfeld?

If you want to know anything about Venezuela or Hugo Chavez, the last source of media you want to turn to is American media. Try CBC or BBC.

You mean he doesn't?

Back on topic... I have always wondered about Chavez, but never bothered to read up on it... why is the US so upset with him? Is there any other reason than oil and the friendship with Castro?

The more I read about Hugo Chavez the better he gets.

I hope it is all true. The world needs a man like this.

I thought he enacted a law a couple years ago that made something like 3/4 of the day considered to be when children watched TV and inappropriate for news, political talk, or violence(his men killing people).
I also recall hearing that he regularly interupted programing to have hour long speeches aired.

This was a couple years ago though. Guess I'll have to read up more on this.
