Im using whole brown rice and it is sticking togeather and when I shake it it will not break up, and as a result the mycelium is only growing on the top of the rice cake. It has now been 3 weeks since i began, and the bottom of most the jars is still rice, but the top half is completely covered.
do I have to wait untill it reaches the bottom or can I case the jars now??? And in the future what should I do to prevent the rice from sticking togeather.

im not hundred percent sure , but use brown rice organic flour instead, and make sure its well mixed together before putting the mix in the jars.

you will never be able to shake it. its not shakeable. as is for your other question use a cup of vermiculite in substrate mix.

you can case it... just cut out the uncolonized portion of the substrate and case using what you got :cool: good luck man

Rice is not a good grain for shake jars because it is so sticky. Next time try rye, wheat, or bird seed. Or as someone else suggested, add some verm to keep it loose.
