Using WBF Question
    #4519479 - 08/10/05 07:47 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Okay,I soaked some WBF, in water for 12 hours and it got nice and fat. I dried it out but I have left it 2 days since I soaked it. Can I soak it again or should I toss them and try again? I'm not concerned about the cost of the seed, just anxious to try and every time I go and try to get seed they're out!

FYI, it's called WBS, not WBF. The WBS has probably already soaked all the moisture it can. Since it dried out, the chance of re-hydration is not likely and you would not get the same content of moisture as the first soak.

Don't take a chance using that wild bird seed. It's not worth the spores you could waste.

However, ive read hydrating them to there fullest point and letting them sitt for a day or 2 days. this allows any bacteria that was not killed after simmering, steaming, a microwaving them, to germinate and expand. this makes them much much easier to kill after another simmering an maby nuking it again. its what im doing so  we'll see. makes alot of sence to me.
colonizing in WBF without preasure cooker by germinating then simmering seeds to effectively kill much more efficient way. Sterilizing it.
You may choose only one

You bumped a seven-year old thread to discuss fractional sterilization?
We've learned a lot about it since then, it's not really suitable for home mycology.

What part of the world are you in?
Pressure cookers are found everywhere, but home canning tends to be a US-based hobby.

You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?
