A full proof microwave tek has not been established yet. As of right now, most people are returning with 50/50 results with teks that they have been trying to perfect for months. I highly doubt you can 100% STERILIZE in the microwave although it can offer some sterile conditions. Check out the "grow logs" section of the forum and do a search on "microwave".

I have 3 active microwave logs in the growlog forum, 2 are only starting, one is at its end unless I get another flush.

when i sterilize my jars filled with substrate, i steam in a pot since i dont have a pressure cooker.
i fill the bottom of the pot with h20 and then put a metal broccoli colander (i think thas what u call it) in the bottom and set the jars on top. anything that wont melt (marbles, rocks) can be used to place the jars on as long as the water isnt touching the jars. put a tight lid on top and turn on the stove. i cook the jars for 90 mins. let jars sit for acouple days to check for contams...if they look the same then inoculate.
ive only sterilized about 50 jars this way cuz im somewhat of a beginner, but i havent had any cakes contaminated. still waitin for it.
hope this helps
*.- BTW i think i read somewhere that microwaving will kill the grains er somethin...somebody should check on that

i start it out boiling, then i turn it down to medium...usually i dont have to add more water until the 90 mins is up, just keep an eye on the evaporation or you'll fuck up yer wifes/moms pot...and women get pissed about that shit ive noticed .

well, u dont want the water to get inside the top of the jar...put some tinfoil over the lids of the jars...i read somewhere not to sit the jar directly in the water...not sure exactly why...but i havent done it and shits aight over here...lol. but u definately dont want water to drip into the jars...

The water can touch the jars without a problem, your not supposed to set your jars directly on the bottom of the pan. A washcloth or towel or metal rack works fine..
