residue causing mutations
    #4485519 - 08/02/05 01:30 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Hello all. I have been growing for quite some time now and never had mutations. After my last grow i got some mean green so i cleaned out my fruiting chamber. I thought i rinsed all the detergent away. Would the residue of a cleaner still have enough agents in the air to cause mutations? I used a bathroom cleaner with bleach in it because i didn't have straight bleach. I am guessing it is a good mold and fungus killer because it is a bathroom cleaner. If this is the agent that is causing my mutations, would a heavy rinse with the garden hose clean out any extra that may not have been washed away the first time around? I have one casing in there that is on its first flush and all the pins turned into the usual mutative blobs. I have four more casings that need to go in soon so i want to get this problem under control before i put them in. Also, the casing i have in there.... is it damaged? It is only on its frist flush, but if i clean it out will it resume normal growth in the second, third, and so on flushes?

that is interesting because i've read in advanced mycology that you can induce mutation a number of ways. I would grow but not eat the mutated mushrooms. although there is the possibility the mutation will produce favorable traits that you could clone to make a new strand of mushroom.

i'm pretty sure if you search around you can find several causes of mutations. Again, i'm pretty sure one of those is bleach or lysol being used in or around the fruiting chamber
